Rhine Danube trip
April 22, 2011
It is D-day -2. In two days it will happen. All of the Netherlands is having the Easter breakfast with eggs and lamb butter. We are not. We have butter on our heads because we will be on our way to Vienna. Almost 2000 kilometers on the rowing bike. Lovely along the Rhine. Is that boat still sinking at the Lorelei? More important is the quality of the wine along the way.
Then a stop in Germersheim where we are representing Derk Thys at the fair for special bicycles, see: www.spezialradmesse.de/.
Next are a few tough stages through the Black Forest. How tough is still not known to Hanneke :-). We hope to reach Donaueschingen, just east of Freiburg. Very strange, in Donaueschingen the Danube springs, the 2nd longest river in Europe that flows to the Black Sea. And on the other side of the mountain peaks of the Black Forest, all streams flow towards the Rhine, towards the North Sea.
From Donaueschingen it's downhill again towards Vienna. Touring along the beautiful blue Danube, many Austrian wine regions along the way. Maybe Hans & Roely will really enjoy it in Vienna and stay a few days longer so we can meet there.
Below is a picture of our planned route. With the rowing bike: Made to Run.
